Give your KS1 & KS2 children first hand experience of working scientifically with our brand new workshop experience!
These workshops run slightly differently from our others, as we work with each class for intensely for 1 hour, but of course they are still entirely outdoors! Combining curriculum objectives from Science with History & D&T brings your children's science learning to life!
Keep reading below to see what's involved in each of the workshops. Each age phase will experience a completely different workshop that will provide different science capital links to help you deliver a science week with impact.
Year 1 & 2 Activities
Survival
During the 1 hour session, each Key Stage One class will take on the role of an explorer supporting a team of scientists on mission in your outdoor space. This will lead them to completing a materials investigation to build their own survival shelters, using only the materials they packed in their backpacks!
Throughout the workshop the children will learn about significant individuals in scientific history and have the opportunity to investigate the materials these individuals invented. Finishing with a thorough test to ensure their shelters can withstand the outdoor elements!
Year 3 & 4 Activities
Lost in the wilderness
Through a series of crack the code style activities your children will explore creating their own functioning compass, sorting rock types, investigating reflective materials, exploring classification of plants & creating their own invisible ink. Nature and natural items are woven throughout to give your children an authentic outdoor experience.
Each task will focus on a different area of science to give your Lower Key Stage Two children a taste of the varied different areas of science.
Year 5 & 6 Activities
Race around the world
In a race around the world, Upper Key Stage Two will learn about the events of different explorers through time & then themselves face the challenge of crossing 3 oceans around your outdoor space. During this outdoor workshop they will work together to build a vessel, add a pulley system & create a mast to harness the wind.
In a final showdown the vessels will be put to the test to race across each of the 3 oceans. But who will utilise their scientific knowledge to succeed?
Each workshop lasts 1hour and is available to book
10am-12pm & 1pm – 3pm, which would see 4 classes delivered within a day.
For large schools we can provide multiple staff members to deliver the workshops simultaneously, seeing up to 8 classes delivered in a day.
Please note this workshop is only available for delivery March - July!
Primary schools in Leeds, Wakefield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Selby, Huddersfield, Bradford, Harrogate, Wetherby & York.
We aim to make our workshops affordable for the children to enjoy and therefore only deliver them to areas local to our Education Officers. Schools located within 15 miles of one of our Officers will have travel included - additional milage will be charged at 45p per mile.
If you are located just outside of these areas, please still get in touch. During our quieter periods of the year we may be able to reach you.
