An exciting opportunity to support a small business with a mission to shake up Education! This freelance opportunity is to help expand the areas of availability for our outdoor workshops for schools. This opportunity is perfect for someone looking to take leadership of their own work-life balance, whilst enjoying the great outdoors!

Are you someone who finds joy in sharing the wonders of the outdoors with children? Do you love watching light-bulb moments? Do you recognise the impact the outdoors can have on children's learning and development? You might just be the person we are looking for!

Alfresco Learning currently consists of the two Co-Founders, Hollie Hindle & Jenny Wood, part-time Outdoor Education Officer Angharad Pass and Freelance workshop leaders in South Yorkshire & Derbyshire. Alfresco Learning was created when Hollie & Jenny left the classroom to spread awareness around the benefits of outdoor learning and our success means we are now looking for someone new to support the growth of the company!

We are looking for someone to help expand our child experience workshops to help even more children benefit from them by delivering the workshops into new geographical areas.

Job description

A Freelance Outdoor Workshop Leader will deliver Alfresco Learning’s signature outdoor workshops to KS1 & KS2 children at schools within Durham, Middlesbrough, Sunderland and the surrounding areas.

This will involve:
- Providing a memorable learning experience to the highest standard at every school visited - following our workshop outlines.
- Generating smiles through activities with natural materials to cover National Curriculum objectives.
- Delivering workshops to our new workshop areas: Middlesbrough, Durham, Sunderland, Darlington & surrounding areas. We already have multiple bookings in the Spring ready for you for these areas!
- Organising, moving and transporting resources around school grounds (boosting your daily step count!).
- Working with children from varying backgrounds and providing them with a brand new way to learn.
- Delivering our well-known workshops, which are guaranteed to leave teachers inspired.
- Managing the safety of all participants within the workshop.
- Building rapport with teaching staff, many of our schools rebook our workshops over the years!
- Monitoring and responding to weather conditions both during and before workshops.
-Training to deliver our workshops alongside existing team members (approx. 2 days of training per workshop type).

What we offer

- All of the workshop resources - organised and ready to go!
- Cost of your Enhanced DBS check covered.
- Training to support you in delivering our signature workshops & handbooks to guide you when you’re out on your own.
- Flexible working, the chance for you to choose which days you work on a week-to-week basis.
- Alfresco Learning branded tops, lanyard and fleece to wear whilst delivering workshops.
- A chance to support a growing company and make positive changes to the education sector.

If you’ve got the right passion and personality, we will offer you wholesome, fulfilling days outdoors working with classes of children, lighting up their learning.

What we would LOVE to see from a freelancer delivering our workshops . . .

- The ability to meet Alfresco Learning's high delivery standards when fulfilling our workshops.
- A hardy attitude to the UK weather - this role takes place entirely outdoors all year round and our workshops go ahead come rain or shine!
- The ability to think on your feet - outdoor conditions can change quickly as can class needs!
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- 1 year of experience of working outdoors with large groups of children within the primary age range (the majority of our workshops are with KS1 children so experience of working with 5–7-year-olds is preferable but not essential).
-Access to a vehicle - you will be transporting the workshop resources to schools in varying locations.
- Workshops will be offered to you across County Durham & surrounding areas. If feasible workshops bordering North Yorkshire would be offered to you too - the ability to reach these would be desirable but not essential. We would recommend you need to be located within around an hour's drive of your workshops to keep your days well-balanced!
- An understanding of what curriculum outdoor learning is.
- Some confidence with IT skills (we will provide training to access our systems using email, Trello, Google Calendar and Google drive).
- Availability on Wednesday and/or Thursdays is desirable as you will be trained by our Education Officer on these days.

'I'm so glad I found Alfresco Learning! The word that most comes to mind when I'm asked about my job is 'uplifting'. Having delivered my workshops, I leave kids and teachers with happy faces and hopefully more of a love of the fun you can have outdoors whilst learning! Also the team are so encouraging, enabling and professional and have an inspiring vision for the future. It's a great company to work for.'
