It will begin with ‘walking the plank’ into the outdoor space to play some of Alfresco Learning’s boundary games. To ensure they look the part, the children will then use natural materials to create their very own pirate hat to wear throughout the workshop!
In order to make sure their ship is the best, they will need to work scientifically and think carefully about their material choice, focusing on the properties of materials and how to put them together. They will have the opportunity to test their design several times and evaluate how to improve their ship each time. We will then gather back together as a class to show the Captain all the impressive ships they have created.
Working in groups and using their Maths skills, they will aim to collect the largest bounty of treasure from your outdoor space. Our session will then finish with a classic pirate shanty, using their bodies and natural materials in your outdoor area as the percussion. Aimed at KS1 and this workshop will bring your Pirate topic to life! It has been designed to allow your children to apply their growing scientific knowledge by predicting, testing and evaluating their pirate ships. It will also enable them to practise their Maths and Musical skills.
The workshop is designed to be a minimum of 2 hours per class. However, we have successfully delivered full day workshops to single classes, providing an immersive experience. No! We can cater to a range of outdoor spaces and aim to show you a fresh perspective of how you can utilise the space you have available. For this workshop it doesn’t matter if you have a concrete jungle or a grassy meadow, it can take place anywhere! All we ask is that we can use a space that is cordoned off at break & lunch time to allow the day to run smoothly!
